Another concept album…
Hi folks
Just uploaded yesterday’s session. 8 songs (the first one is in 2 parts so really it’s 9). I managed about 10 hours of music-making, including mixdown. I had to stop then ‘cos I was due at Brother Buffalo’s for the listening session.
It’s another concept album - this time about this Danish scientist called Nielsen who has a theory that the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva is being sabotaged from the future because the Higgs particle that it is meant to be creating is so dangerous that “God” (if you want to call He/She/It/Them that) won’t allow it to be created and is making it break down. Nielsen’s other evidence for this theory is that the US’s equivalent project, the SSC, was cancelled in 1993 after it was already partially built. I have an alternative theory about why that happened which doesn’t rely on supernatural entities (the US congress are very stupid) but there you go.
You can read his academic paper on the topic here - it’s a cracker. I used it for some of the lyrics in the session.
I like to give a gear list sometimes so here we go:
Various softsynths including Pro-53 and CS80V
Korg MS10
Dave Smith Evolver
guitar-to-MIDI converter thingy (Sonuus)
Zoom 1201 (vocoder preset)
Brother Oak (mined his May-08 session again - great stuff)
Les Paul (the guitar not the recently deceased)
Yamaha bass
about 10 effects pedals.
We had the listening session yesterday and everybody’s sessions were excellent. I was blown away by the Sister Biccies track. But more of that when I get a bit more time to post stuff in a bit.

And what a corker it is too. Great use of backwards material for those subliminal messages. I always love a Brother Typewriter concept album and this one didn’t disappoint. Great work rate for 10 hours too -and you’re always up against it when you’re doing the composition session the same day as the listening session.
Nice one.
